House Delays Spending Bill Review

imagingBiz | U.S. House of Representative appropriators have indefinitely postponed plans to consider the 2012 spending bill for health programs. The review had been scheduled for Friday morning.

An appropriations staff member says the decision to postpone was made because the Transportation Appropriations panel is currently considering several amendments and may need to continue its mark-up tomorrow on Friday. House rules do not permit the simultaneous “markup” of two spending bills, the staff member explains..

The House has proposed allocating slightlymore than $139 billion for health, education, and labor programs for the fiscal year, starting on October 1.

Meanwhile, Senate appropriators yesterday announced that their allocation for the same areas will top $157 billion, $23 billion less than stipulated in President Obama’s budget request and $300 million below this year’s budget.
